Alvaro Wolmer's Bengalas: Redefining Luxury Walking Sticks

Combining Artistry and Functionality in Exquisite Walking Sticks

Alvaro Wolmer, a seasoned furniture designer, has turned his attention to crafting luxury walking sticks, Bengalas, inspired by the lack of fine walking sticks in the market. His designs, which have won the prestigious Silver A' Limited Edition and Custom Design Award in 2022, blend traditional woodworking techniques with modern technology, resulting in a product that is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing.

Wolmer's Bengalas are made from the finest quality red or white oak, a material chosen for its strength, beauty, and comfort in both winter and summer. The handles, available in classic C or T shapes, are reinforced with jacaranda paulista, a native Brazilian wood, adding an extra layer of durability. The walking sticks are finished with tung oil, enhancing their natural beauty and providing a pleasant touch. The replaceable tips, made from aluminum and laminated rubber, ensure the walking sticks are practical for everyday use.

Each walking stick is meticulously crafted by fine artisans using regular woodworking machines and techniques, supplemented by a CNC router for shaping and packaging. The scientific names of the two woods used are laser engraved, adding a touch of sophistication. The oak used is FSC certified, reflecting Wolmer's commitment to sustainability.

The walking sticks are custom-made, with a diameter of 25 mm for men and a slightly slimmer 22 mm for women. The length is also customized to the user's preference, ensuring a perfect fit. The walking sticks come in an MDF package measuring 105 cm long, 20 cm wide, and 3.6 cm thick.

Wolmer's Bengalas are not just walking aids but also works of art. The designer's dedication to creating a product that is beautiful, warm, discreet, lightweight, durable, and well-designed is evident in every piece. Many buyers have expressed their love for their walking sticks, often keeping them close even when not in use.

The design of Bengalas started in Sao Paulo in January 2016 and was completed in January 2021. The project was a result of extensive research on the Internet, where Wolmer studied thousands of walking sticks before creating his own designs. Despite the challenge of creating something unique in a field as old as walking sticks, Wolmer has succeeded in crafting a product that stands out for its quality and design.

The design of Bengalas has been registered with the Instituto dos Arquitetos do Brasil, protecting its unique features. The design's excellence has been recognized with the Silver A' Limited Edition and Custom Design Award in 2022, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
